The SteelEye® Protection Suite for Citrix® XenServer™ delivers a comprehensive disaster recovery solution for XenServer virtualization deployments. With the SteelEye Protection Suite, your XenServer environment is protected with built-in data replication for XenServer Virtual Machines (VMs) that is host based, so expensive storage based replication is not required.
SteelEye Protection Suite for Citrix XenServer is based on the proven SteelEye Data Replication product and runs within the XenServer Console OS (Dom 0) and provides highly optimized replication of XenServer VMs across any LAN or WAN network connection. Any or all VMs replicated in real-time to a target server are then available to be brought into service as needed for business continuity.
Now, with the release of LifeKeeper Version 6 Release 4, SPS for Citrix XenServer will support XenServer 5. This includes the Express edition, as well as the Standard, Enterprise, and Platinum editions. SPS for Citrix XenServer 6.4 has support for XenServer HA and for Portable Storage Repositories, new features found in XenServer 5.
With built-in compression and a change-only replication model, SteelEye's data replication technology is built to ensure that XenServer VM replication is efficient, that data integrity is maintained and that bandwidth usage and CPU cycles are kept to a minimum.
The solution also supports selective VM replication for instances where not all VM images are considered business-critical. Individual VMs or groups of VMs can be selected for replication. Besides business continuity, replication is useful for planned VM migration among sites.
The SteelEye Protection Suite for Citrix XenServer also supports replication of XenServer virtual machines that are part of a resource pool. This allows an administrator to move a virtual machine from one physical host to another (using XenCenter or command line functions), while maintaining replication connectivity. The SteelEye Protection Suite for Citrix XenServer pauses the replication stream briefly while the final migration completes, and then picks up the replication activity from the new physical host. Suspend/resume actions are handled in a similar manner.

The SteelEye Protection Suite for Citrix XenServer also provides a number of new command line utilities for managing XenServer virtual machines on the disaster recovery site. This includes functions to export and import virtual machine metadata, to operate virtual machines in a test mode, and also for starting and stopping virtual machines in case of a disaster. Administrators can also use XenCenter to start and stop VMs at the disaster recovery site when necessary.

The SteelEye Protection Suite for Citrix XenServer is available for XenServer Express, XenServer Standard or XenServer Enterprise/Platinum. For SMB customers running XenServer Standard, it provides an easy way to provide warm, real-time backup's of virtual machines inside of a data center, replicating across a LAN.
SteelEye also provides time limited licenses of SteelEye Protection Suite for Citrix XenServer to facilitate permanent movement of virtual machines from one data center to another. In this way, real time copies of virtual machines can be established at the new data center before cut over occurs. This eliminates a lot of movement of data and manual steps when moving a VM from one resource pool to another.
